LOS ANGELES (AP) — The lawyer for the man accused of secretly making nude videos of an ESPN reporter says Michael Barrett has deep regrets for the circumstances that prompted the charges against him.
Barrett is charged with interstate stalking. He entered a plea of not guilty today in Los Angeles.
He's suspected of finding three hotels where reporter Erin Andrews was staying last year -- and then renting an adjacent room, altering the peephole, and shooting videos of Andrews.
He's accused of uploading the videos to the Internet and trying to sell them to the celebrity gossip site TMZ.
The charges were filed in Los Angeles because TMZ is based there.
Barrett remains free after posting a bond of $100,000.
The lawyer for the Illinois insurance executive says he has no criminal record.
If he's convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
