WASHINGTON (AP) — WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Republicans must confirm at least seven presidential appointees they've been blocking to keep the current Senate rules.

The Nevada Democrat again threatened to allow simple-majority votes for presidential nominees other than judges. The proposal has drawn virulent protests from Republicans, but Reid calls the move "no big deal."

Currently 41 senators can block actions in the 100-member chamber. Republicans have often delayed or blocked presidential nominees with that tactic.

All 100 senators are invited to a meeting tonight in the Capitol, in a last ditch-effort to resolve the disagreement.

Reid says a deal to confirm fewer than the seven won't suffice. They include three labor board appointees, and the heads of the consumer protection bureau and the Environmental Protection Agency.
