ONALASKA, Wis. (AP) — Sanders "Sandy" Hook, a former publisher at the La Crosse Tribune and other Lee Enterprises publications, has died.

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association says Hook died Sunday after an 18-month battle with esophageal cancer. He was 73.

Hook spent his entire 30-year career with Lee Enterprises, starting in 1965 at the Quad City Times in Davenport, Iowa. He went to the La Crosse Tribune a year later, eventually becoming general manager.

He also served as general manager and publisher at the Bismarck Tribune in North Dakota and publisher of the Herald & Review in Decatur, Ill. He returned to the La Crosse Tribune in 1987 as publisher. He became manager of the newspaper group in 1990. He retired in 1995.

A memorial is set for June 4 in La Crosse.
