ATLANTA (AP) — Amherst guard Aaron Toomey and coach David Hixon did what they set out to do.

Hixon thought he had the reigning Division III national player of the year on the hook when he was recruiting him, but then the coach started to hear that some Division I schools had taken an interest in Tooomey. Hixon wasn't totally put at ease until his phone buzzed one day, and he pulled it out of his pocket and checked Toomey's text message.

"It said, 'Coach, coming to Amherst, let's go win a national championship,'" Hixon recalled.

The junior guard helped deliver the title with an 87-70 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sunday at Philips Arena, just around the corner from where Michigan and Louisville will play for the Division I title Monday night.
