ORRINGTON, Maine (AP) — Fire officials say three children and a man died in a fire early this morning at a home in rural Maine, but the children's mother escaped.
It's not clear what caused the fire, but the assistant fire chief in the Bangor suburb of Orrington says wood house "was heavily involved" when firefighters arrived on the scene.
The identities of the victims weren't released. A fire official at the scene tells the Bangor Daily News the man who died was believed to be in his 30s, and the children ranged in ages from 4 to 8 years old.
The Maine Public Safety Department says the mother was treated for smoke inhalation.
The state fire marshal's office is investigating.
