KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The St. Louis public school district can now shed its "unaccredited" label.

The Missouri Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to reclassify the district as provisionally accredited. St. Louis requested the review after a report showed the district went from meeting three of 14 performance standards in 2009 to seven this year.

Provisional accreditation moves St. Louis out from under a Missouri law allowing students to transfer out of unaccredited districts. While litigation continues, students aren't being allowed to use the law to transfer.
