PAKISTAN AIRLIFT - 14-year-old activist shot by the Taliban is flown to the United Kingdom for specialized medical treatment in Birmingham. The shooting of Malala Yousufazi and two classmates has horrified people inside and outside the country.

ITALY CRUISE LINER - The former captain of the shipwrecked Costa Concordia appears in an Italian court to hear evidence against him. Experts presented the court with an analysis from the ship's 'black box' data recorder.

TURKEY SYRIA TENSION - Turkish authorities forced an Armenian cargo plane bound for Syria to land in eastern Turkey so it could be searched for any military equipment. Turkey and Syria have barred each other's aircraft from flying over their territories as tensions escalate along the border.

PERU CLINTON - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton holds news conference with Peruvian President Ollanta Humala ahead of international conference on women.

UK BADGERS - A controversial cull of badgers begins as part of a trial program aimed at halting the spread of tuberculosis in cattle. Animal rights activists say the cull will do nothing to affect the rate of TB infection.
