PHOENIX -- A wrong-way driver with four young children in her truck plowed into a bus stop and a tree early Thursday morning.

It happened on 35th Avenue near Rose Lane, just north of Bethany Home Road.

Police are trying to determine if the 26-year-old woman was drunk or under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders were concerned that a 4-month-old baby who was in a car seat might have suffered internal injuries. According to Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department, the baby is in critical condition.

Three more children -- two 3-year-olds and a 6-year-old -- were also in the truck when it crashed. One of them sustained a cut, but is expected to be just fine. The other two kids were not hurt.

Police said the woman was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. Those injuries reportedly were not life-threatening.

Holmes said that although she is in the hospital, she is officially in police custody. Investigators will not release her name or any other information about her until she is booked into jail.
