PHOENIX -- This weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) only has one major freeway construction project listed for the agency’s Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory in the Phoenix area.
This is for the weekend of June 14 through June 17. The closure will affect drivers who typically access Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from the east side.
The state Route 143 will be closed in both directions between the Interstate 10 and University Drive near Sky Harbor. This closure will begin on Friday night (June 14) at 11 p.m. The freeway is not scheduled to reopen until Monday morning (June 17) at 5 a.m.
Construction crews with the ADOT will shut down the state Route 143 for pipeline work. The northbound side of 48th Street will also be closed at Broadway Road.
DETOUR: If travelers need to get to Sky Harbor Airport from the east side of town, there are a few options. Drivers can make their way up to the Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) through north Tempe. Motorists can still access the east side of the airport from the Loop 202. Additionally, I-10 westbound drivers can access the airport’s west entrance via Buckeye Road. Alternate north/south surface street routes in the area include 40th and 52nd streets.
