PHOENIX -- Some pilots took to the sky over Phoenix to honor veterans.

The Stearman and Waco Squadron flew over the Valley and opened the Phoenix Veterans Day parade with a formation flight down Central Avenue.

The lead pilot, Roger Parrish, is an Air Force Vietnam veteran who had the honor of flying over President Kennedy's funeral and continues to fly his 1940's Stearman WWll trainer for enjoyment.

These pilots say that when they fly these beautiful warbirds, they are keeping history alive and it gives them great pride to remember the sacrifices veterans give for the freedoms we enjoy in America.
