PHOENIX -- A Valley singer and songwriter is hoping her lyrics will mean a win for her in a contest sponsored by performer Jewel.

Meagan Gipson was recently named one of only 10 finalists in the "Rethink: Why Housing Matters" song contest with Jewel. The contest is aimed at encouraging people to rethink in the benefits of public housing.

Gipson wrote lyrics to be used by Jewel as inspiration to write a song about the importance of having a home.

Gipson is a fifth generation Arizona native, and has been singing and performing around the Valley for more than a decade.

You have until June 20 to vote for Gipson. You can vote online at http://bit.ly/1jWPVit.
