PEORIA, Ariz. -- A West Valley teen is providing an inspirational story on the football field, and he’s doing it without scoring touchdowns.

Fifteen-year-old Centennial High School student Drew Schmit has cerebral palsy, but that hasn’t stopped him from enjoying the sport thousands of high school students enjoy every fall.

“When you play football man, it’s the greatest feeling in the world man,” said Drew. “You’d give up anything just to play this, under theses lights and under this coach.”

Drew plays on the JV team at Centennial, and has been his class president for the past two years. He also has a nack for sports announcing and public speaking.

Drew’s teammates and coach all say they wouldn’t be as close as a team without him. They also love having his positive spirit around.

Friday was Drew’s last game of the season.

He’ll still be out on the field, however, supporting the varsity team as they head into the playoffs.
