PHOENIX -- Two women were taken to the hospital Monday night after being struck by a car.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the women, ages 26 and 30, were in the roadway at 16th Street and Southern when they were hit.

Police said a 30-year-old female driver was heading southbound on 16th Street when her vehicle struck the victims.

The driver was given a field sobriety test, but impairment was not believed to be a factor.

The injured pedestrians are expected to survive, according to police.

A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the driver lost control of her vehicle. This version also clarifies that the pedestrians were in the roadway, not near the road.
