Map: Stabbing at bus stop
PHOENIX -- Police have a suspect in custody following a stabbing in central Phoenix Tuesday morning.
The stabbing happened at the corner of Indian School Road and Central Avenue at about 7 a.m.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump said the suspect got off a city bus with other passengers and exchanged words with a man who was already standing on the corner. The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the man at least a couple of times then fled the area.
Witnesses rendered aid to the victim and gave police a description of the suspect.
Police officers detained a person matching witness descriptions.
The victim is in critical condition at a local hospital.
At this time, police do not know a motive or if the two men knew each other.
Police have not released the names of the suspect or victim.
