PHOENIX -- One person was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a high-speed chase through the streets of Phoenix.

Police said just after 5 p.m., officers began conducting follow-ups in an attempt to locate 26-year-old Ivan Trejo, who was wanted on a domestic violence-related aggravated assault charge.

“He was initially wanted for an aggravated assault domestic violence related crime,” said Martos. “It is alleged he pointed a gun at his girlfriend.”

Officers located Trejo at around 5:15 p.m. and followed him to a gas station near Central Avenue and Sunland.

When Trejo exited his vehicle police attempted to place him under arrest. Trejo, who police say has previously run from officers, was able to make it back to his SUV and drive off.

As he was leaving the gas station, police said Trejo nearly ran over an officer.

“We had a number of officers approach this individual,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos. “He had run from officers in the past so they had already requested air unit assistance, unmarked cars and other officers in the area.”

Trejo proceeded to drive east into Tempe where he became involved in a hit-and-run collision.

He then drove back into Phoenix where he eventually ditched his vehicle in a neighborhood near Seventh Street and Thomas Road.

Trejo was subsequently located by officers and taken into custody.

He is now facing several charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal damage, possession of marijuana, unlawful flight and resisting arrest.
