GILBERT, Ariz. – Police are searching for a suspect in a carjacking near Country Club Drive and Guadalupe Road in Gilbert Wednesday morning.
Sgt. Jesse Sanger said the male victim was headed to his car to go to work at around 7:40 a.m. when he was confronted by the suspect in the parking lot of his apartment complex.
"He did get involved in a physical altercation, which we don't suggest," Sanger said.
The victim was dragged a short distance by his own car while trying to get it back from the suspect.
"Obviously, in that situation if somebody wants your car, just let them have it," Sanger said. "We can get the property back. It's not worth somebody getting hurt."
The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene.
His 1990 red Geo Prizm was recovered at 8:20 a.m. in a business parking lot just south of the apartments.
Officers are still trying to locate the suspect.
He is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s. He is approximately 6 feet tall and weighs between 180-200 lbs. He has the word "south" tattooed on his upper lip along with a second unknown word.
