PHOENIX – The Phoenix Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying an armed robbery suspect.
Officer James Holmes said the suspect entered the Family Dollar store at Van Buren Street and 35th Avenue at around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 3. He was armed with what appeared to be a black AK-47 rifle.
The suspect pointed the rifle at the store clerk and demanded money from the registers.
"The entrance was quick, it was violent, he was yelling and he was pointing this weapon at everybody that was there, and so obviously we're very concerned about that," Holmes said.
After obtaining cash, the suspect left the store and fled the area.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic-appearing male, approximately 25 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 170 pounds, with a thin goatee and wearing what was described as a gray hooded jacket and blue jeans.
Holmes said a suspect with a similar description committed an armed robbery at the Ozark Market near Buckeye Road and 31st Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. on the same day. Detectives have not been able to determine if the two armed robberies are related.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. Callers may remain anonymous.
