PHOENIX -- Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man at a Phoenix apartment complex Friday night.
About 10:45 p.m., the Phoenix Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the complex near 28th Street and Broadway Road.
When police arrived, they found 34-year-old Jerome Armstead in the breezeway of the complex. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Armstead was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Neighbors were not surprised by the homicide, saying shootings are common at the apartment complex.
Police had not identified a suspect as of Saturday morning, but witnesses said they saw a man running from the area shortly after shots were fired.
He then got into a car and left the complex, witnesses said. The car is described as a silver or gray Chrysler 300 with stock rims and no window tint.
Witnesses described the suspect as a black man in his 30s, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He appeared to be balding. He was wearing a blue shirt, blue pants and white athletic shoes.
