PHOENIX -- One man is dead and another critically injured after gunfire erupted in a South Phoenix neighborhood Thursday.

The shooting, which Phoenix police say could be gang-related, occurred near 17th Street and Broadway Road shortly before noon.

Evidence at the scene showed multiple shots had been fired inside and outside the home on the 1700 block of East Chipman Road, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump.

Detectives learned that a group of males arrived at the home and appear to have been let inside. An argument ensued and a physical fight broke out in the home.

Police received numerous calls of shots fired in the neighborhood and learned that two men arrived at Maricopa Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Anthony Hines, 27, died from his injuries. The other man, identified only as a 30-year-old black male, was rushed into surgery. He was listed in critical condition Thursday evening.

Neighbors said they heard dozens of gunshots.

"It's scary, that's what it is," said neighbor Alyce Williams. "I baby-sit my grandchildren here."

Crump said it is unknown how many shooters were involved before everyone fled from the scene. There is witness information that a third subject may have been shot in the leg and has not yet sought treatment.

Police detained several people at the hospital and the shooting scene, but no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness.
