PHOENIX -- A pedestrian crossing the street in Phoenix Tuesday night was struck by a car and killed.
The man was walking in a crosswalk near 33rd Avenue and Thomas Road at approximately 7 p.m. when a Mazda hit him.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the pedestrian crossed the intersection against the Don't Walk signal and the driver had a green light.
The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and was not injured. She was evaluated and impairment did not appear to be a factor, according to Thompson.
Thomas Road was shut down at 33rd Avenue while police investigated the accident.
