MESA, Ariz. – An elderly woman was punched in the face during a burglary early Wednesday morning, according to Mesa police.

Detective Steve Berry said the male suspect removed the screen and rear window to the residence near Broadway and Gilbert roads at approximately 2:30 a.m.

The suspect entered the home and rummaged through the dresser in the master bedroom while the victim was asleep.

Berry said the 92-year-old woman was awakened by the suspect's flashlight. The suspect punched the woman in the face then fled the residence with a dresser drawer and numerous items, including jewelry.
