PHOENIX -- There was a line around the corner at the McDonald’s near 24th Street and Osborn Saturday morning, but it wasn’t for the food.
For the second consecutive year, the fast food giant gave away backpacks as part of their commitment to the community.
“It’s really awesome, because I know a lot of parents can’t afford back to school stuff because it gets really expensive,” said parent Shanyn King. “It’s her first year going to kindergarten; we weren’t expecting it to be quite so much.”
There were 280 McDonald’s locations throughout Arizona taking part in the backpack giveaway.
All told, nearly 30,000 backpacks were handed out on Saturday.
