AHWATUKEE, Ariz. -- With a bang and a flash of light, an overnight fire destroyed an Ahwatukee home.

It happened in the area of Desert Foothills Parkway and First Street, just northwest of Desert Foothills Park in Ahwatukee Foothills.

It was shortly before midnight when some kids who were nearby called 911 after hearing that bang and seeing the house fully engulfed in flames. The kids also alerted neighbors to the danger.

Video from the scene massive flames shooting into the air.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they learned that the homeowners had just left for a vacation.

Crews immediately went defensive. While they were able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring houses, they were not able to save the home. Two cars also were destroyed.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
