AVONDALE, Ariz. – The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested five people after busting an Avondale business that was operating as an illegal marijuana dispensary.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Arizona Medical Massage near Dysart Road and Van Buren Street was used as a front to illegally sell medical marijuana.

"They are not licensed under the state so now they're under arrest," Arpaio said.

The sheriff's office had been investigating the business for about six months. MCSO executed a search warrant on Thursday and found approximately 9 pounds of highly potent marijuana inside the business, according to an MCSO spokesman.

Arpaio said they also seized thousands of dollars and two vehicles.

Arpaio said it's not a place he'd expect to make this kind of bust.

"Usually, you probably find these not in the best neighborhood, but this is a great shopping center," Arpaio said. "And if you notice, they have the sign Arizona Medical Massage. The only thing they left out was marijuana."

More arrests are possible as the investigation continues.

Arpaio said one of the suspects could face animal cruelty charges after mentioning that she would give marijuana to her Chihuahua puppy to calm it down.
