PHOENIX -- Two men earned helicopter rides to the hospital for their injuries during a dangerous day on Lake Pleasant on Saturday.

One man almost drowned in the lake around 5:30 p.m.  Just before that, another man was flown to a Valley hospital after losing part of his hand in a boating accident.

Witnesses told 3TV that an 11-year-old girl from California fell off the back of a boat as it started to move.  Her arm was tangled in the inner tube tow rope and her dad jumped to free her.

“His effort to remove that rope saved her arm [from amputation] and caused him serious injury to his hand,” said B.C. Michael Moore, Peoria Fire Department

People who were in the boat with the man and his daughter told 3TV that the man lost at least four fingers that were ripped off when the rope he was untangling from his daughter snapped tight.

His daughter was okay and not taken to the hospital.

Rescuers barely took a breath before the second incident happened with a man who got into deep water while swimming fully clothed.

“We had an adult male that was swimming with his family on the shore of the lake.  They hadn't made contact with him for a while and went looking for him - noticed he was floating face down in the water.”

According to rescuers, bystanders pulled the unconscious man to shore still breathing.  He was flown to the hospital as a precaution.
