PHOENIX – Three people were arrested and four others have been detained after police and federal agents served search warrants in two areas of Phoenix Wednesday morning as part of an ongoing large-scale drug investigation.

Authorities arrested three males near Happy Valley Road and 35th Avenue at 6 a.m., according to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump. Four people were detained at a second location near Indian School Road and 99th Avenue.

Authorities said they seized heroin, marijuana and meth as well as pistols, rifles and handguns during the search of the homes. Crump said 5 pounds of meth and a dozen firearms were seized at the second location.

Authorities are still conducting interviews with those in custody.

Crump said they believe there is a connection between this group and recent violence in Phoenix.

Police said the investigation may lead to information about a shooting in July near Van Buren and 30th streets where two people were shot multiple times.

Investigators believe this group is involved with distribution and transportation of drugs and firearms on both sides of the border, according to Crump.

Possible charges include sale and possession of drugs and firearms.

The Phoenix Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the operation.
