PHOENIX -- A 72-year-old man had to be airlifted off Camelback Mountain after he fell and fractured his hip Tuesday morning.
The man was approximately three-fourths up the Echo Canyon trail in the area known as the "upper waterfalls," according to a spokesman from the Phoenix Fire Department.
A technical rescue team climbed up to the man, stabilized him and gave him pain medication.
The rescuers then carried the man uphill approximately 200 yards to a small landing zone where he was loaded into a helicopter and flown down to a ground ambulance.
The man was transported to a local trauma center.
