SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. --  Hundreds of pets received special blessings Saturday at the annual Blessing of the Animals at the Franciscan Renewal Center.

This custom is continued in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures.

This is the 18th annual event at the Franciscan Renewal Center. Phoenix Animal Care Coalition (PACC911) coordinated the participation of over 65 rescue and adoption groups. Over 2000 animals of all kinds will be blessed in this annual tradition at the Casa.

Over 400 pets will be adopted or fostered as a result of the event. This is the most productive event in the state for adoptions and by far the largest in the Southwest.

The event continues Sunday, with animal adoption going on 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and the Blessing of the Animals at noon and 2 p.m.

Franciscan Renewal Center is located at 5802 E Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale. Admission and parking are free.
