GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A deadly crash shut down a major Valley roadway for hours Monday evening.

A Phoenix man was killed in the accident near 47th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Glendale police said Marcel Buyoya, 65, was crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle at about 6:15 p.m. The driver, a man in his 50s, stopped and waited for police to arrive.

Police said it appears Buyoya was crossing the roadway from the north to the south and was not in a crosswalk.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

Glendale Police Vehicular Crimes investigators remained on scene.

Officer Tracey Breeden said speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the collision.

The driver has not been cited or charged at this time.
