GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Glendale police are asking for the public's help as they investigate a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian last weekend.

John Mangan, 23, of Phoenix, was struck by a vehicle while walking near Camelback Road and 87th Avenue sometime before 3 a.m. Sunday.

"I don't understand how somebody can be that heartless, and just run over somebody and not care," said Bobby Klip, Mangan's older brother.

"I really pray to God he comes forward, so my whole family can have closure on this," Klip said.

John Mangan leaves behind four brothers and a mother who are now leaning on each other for support as they grieve.

"He was good at just about anything and everything that he did," Joseph Klip said. "He had such a kind heart."

His family believes he had left a friend's house earlier Sunday night and was walking to someone else's home when he was hit.

"We need to know how this happened and why it happened," Bobby Klip said.

Investigators gathered evidence from the scene, including damaged vehicle parts that had a serial number stamped into them.

As a result of the evidence, investigators believe the vehicle that struck and killed Mangan could be a dark blue 2000 or 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. They believe the truck sustained noticeable damage to the front end.

As detectives look for leads, Mangan's family wants answers and justice.

"I just pray that we get closure soon, very soon," Bobby Klip said.

Police are looking for any witnesses or persons with information about the case. They also urge local auto body shops to keep an eye out for the possibly damaged suspect vehicle.

Anyone with information that might help investigators solve the crime is asked to call 623-930-3000.
