PHOENIX -- We all know that there are foods that are good for your general health, like fruits and vegetables. But are there certain foods that can actually help heal your body?
Chef Dana Rohr of Taste Buds Gourmet listed some of them for us on Monday's Good Morning Arizona. She says they are items that you can incorporate into your everyday dishes.
"I'm not asking you to change the way you eat," she says. "But maybe add a few nutritious items to make everything more healthy for you and your family.
Those items include onions, especially red onions. "Red onion is wonderful. It helps regulate insulin in the body," Rohr says. "So people that have diabetes, they should eat some onion every day."
Garlic is another good food. "Garlic is a major antioxidant," she says. "It helps prevent cancer, such as colon cancer. It also helps with inflammation of your arteries. It has sulfur, so it helps your ligaments. So I would eat garlic every day."
We can't forget about tomatoes, especially when we live in the Valley of the Sun. "Tomatoes have lycopene, which protect the body against UV rays," says Rohr. "And tomatoes go with everything."
There are also antioxidants in both red and white wine.
All of this is tied into a big event going on this weekend, a celebrity chef collaboration to benefit The American Medical College of Homeopathy.
"We have eight valley chefs," says Tisha Pelletier of Details Event Management. "They're demonstrating their own private recipes in front of a live audience and passing out samples."
The Celebrity Chef Collaboration to benefit The American Medical College of Homeopathy will be held Saturday, September 28 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. It's all happening at the SubZero/Wolf Showroom at 15570 N 83rd Way in Scottsdale.
Tickets are $75 and include live cooking demos from eight Valley chefs, heavy hors d' oeuvres, spirits, live music, silent auction and 50/50 raffle. You can use the code "GMAZ" for $25 off ticket order.
The event will feature celebrity chef appearances and mouthwatering demonstrations by: Chef Massimo De Francesca of Taggia at Kimpton's Firesky Resort & Spa, Executive Chef Anthony Crocenzi of The Venue Scottsdale/K.I.S.S. Restaurant, Chef Matthew Janiec of Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill, Chef Admir Alibasic of Ben & Jack's Steakhouse, Chef Dennis Frazier of Cater Phoenix Modern Catering, Chef Eddy Pham of The Great Pho King Food Truck, Chef Dana Rohr of Taste Buds and Chef Almira Yoel Wagley of My In-House Chef.
Each chef will be given a high-end kitchen within SubZero/Wolf's showroom to craft their own unique recipe while an AMCH student assists as their Sous Chef in educating the audience of the medicinal benefits each ingredient provides. Guests will be able to learn and sample several dishes from main entrees to dessert throughout the night, feast on lavish hors d' oeuvres and spirits, listen to live music, bid on silent auction items, and partake in a 50/50 cash raffle all in support of nonprofit American Medical College of Homeopathy.
