Should the MCACC worker who posted a controversial Facebook comment about the dog that bit a child be fired?
PHOENIX -- A Maricopa County Animal Care and Control employee is accused of not caring very much about one of the dogs at the shelter.
On a Facebook page created in support of Mickey, the dog that bit off part of young boy’s face, Vanessa Martinez wrote, "This is stupid… you guys doing all of this won’t help any. He's going night night."
Martinez went on to write that she works at MCACC.
Since Martinez posted that comment, the director MCACC has been bombarded with emails calling for the woman's termination. The director responded to at least one email, saying that while an employee's opinions "may be damaging," they are entitled to free speech when they are not on the clock.
The story of Mickey is going viral on social media sites, receiving comments from as far away as Europe.
A "Save Mickey" Facebook page was created to garner support for the dog that is being kept alive under a temporary restraining order after a vicious bite. That Facebook page has more than 32,000 likes. There's also a petition to spare Mickey's life on Change.org that has some 30,000 signatures.
While Mickey has a large contingent of very vocal supporters, there also are people who believe he should be euthanized. Like those who are looking to save the dog, those who want him put sleep have posted a Change.org petition, as well.
Last month, Mickey was in his own backyard when a 4-year-old boy crossed the fence and tried to take the dog's bone. Mickey responded by biting the child. Kevin has now had to undergo several facial surgeries. A family friend says he has another surgery scheduled soon.

A judge is scheduled to make a determination on Mickey's fate by March 13.
A spokesperson for MCACC says Martinez is still employed. A petition is circulating on the Internet calling for Martinez to be terminated.
