PHOENIX -- Four people are in custody after an early morning carjacking spawned a suspect search in a Valley neighborhood Friday.

According to police, the victims -- a 25-year-old male and his 25-year-old female passenger -- were driving home just before 3 a.m. when they noticed a vehicle following them. The pair parked in front of their home in the neighborhood of 84th and Palm lanes and waited for the suspects to drive by.

Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department said the suspects turned around and went back to the parked truck. One of the suspects got out of the vehicle, pointed a shotgun at the driver of the pickup and ordered him and his passenger to get out.

As the suspect backed up the truck, the driver pulled a gun of his own and fired several shots, Martos said. Nobody was injured.

A little more than two hours later, a patrol officer spotted the stolen 2006 Dodge Charger in the area of 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Police followed the pickup about 10.5 miles from 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street in Tolleson to an area near Interstate 17 and Buckeye Road. The four suspects, Hispanic males between the ages of 15 and 17, bailed out of the truck and tried to escape into the neighborhood.

Officers quickly set up a perimeter and caught all four suspects. In addition, they found a shotgun in the stolen truck.

Detectives are questioning the four suspects, one of whom is 15. Two are 17 years old and the fourth is 18.

No other details about the young men were immediately available.
