PHOENIX -- Two people were killed early Saturday morning after a wrong-way driver traveled down the Red Mountain 202.

Police said the accident occurred just before 3 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near Priest Drive.

The crash involved a car and a motorcycle.

Two people were on the motorcycle while three people were inside the car.

The driver who caused the crash, 29-year-old Maikil Doud Schol, was allegedly drunk, and was placed under arrest.

Police identified the deceased victims as St. Johns residents Andy Chilimidos, 50, and Darlene Atencio, 45.

Investigators had to shut down the freeway in both directions for several hours while they studied the scene.
