SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Two horses were hit and killed by cars on Shea Boulevard near 68th Street in Scottsdale Tuesday morning.

The animals got loose from a nearby home with horse property at approximately 9:45 a.m. They were each hit by a different vehicle.

The homeowner said the horses were new and got spooked. His wife and daughter couldn't hold them back.

No one in the vehicles was injured, however their cars were damaged.

The horses blocked the median lane for part of the morning.

The horses were removed from the roadway and traffic was back to normal after a couple of hours.
