MESA, Ariz. -- Police in Mesa arrested a man this week after he allegedly tried to rob a CVS with a ballpoint pen.

According to police, 23-year-old Daimarkus Maxwell entered the CVS near Power Road and McDowell on Thursday night wearing a mask and holding a pen like a knife.

Maxwell reportedly demanded money from an employee, but fled the scene when the clerk refused to comply.

A short time later, a police officer spotted a man matching Maxwell’s description near a canal east of the CVS.

When officers contacted the man, who was in fact Maxwell, they found evidence linking him to the crime.

Maxwell was subsequently arrested and charged with armed robbery.
