CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Authorities suspect alcohol had a role in the weekend death of a freshman student from Arizona at Indiana's Wabash College.
Eighteen-year-old Johnny D. Smith of Tucson was found dead at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity yesterday morning. Smith's mother, Stacy Smith, told The Indianapolis Star that her son was found face down in a pool of vomit.
Crawfordsville, Indiana, Police Chief Kurt Knecht (kuh-NEKT') says authorities suspect that alcohol was involved, but are waiting for autopsy results and toxicology tests.
The coroner says an autopsy is scheduled later this week and toxicology tests could take about a month to complete.
Smith was a graduate of Tucson's Desert View High School, where officials say he was involved in marching band and was a member of the football and lacrosse teams.
