KTVK's Brad Cesmat has been told by three NBA sources that Mike D'Antoni has accepted an offer to become the new head coach of the New York Knicks.

Fans react to D'Antoni's departure

He’s also been told that D’Antoni’s contract is for four years and $24 million. This makes him the third highest paid coach in the NBA.

Earlier this week, the Suns granted D'Antoni permission to speak to the Knicks as well as the Chicago Bulls. Cesmat said the Bulls was apparently D'Antoni's first choice, but they were dragging their feet.

D'Antoni had two years left on his contract with the Suns worth $8.5 million.

He led the Suns to a 55-27 record last season and was coach of the year in 2005.

Many are now wondering who will coach the Suns. Cesmat reported that former Suns player Dan Marjele was interested in an assistant position, but not the head coach job.
