Men have not been identified

UPDATE June 13:

The Associated Press reports that the sheriff said one of the men had a criminal history in Arizona had been identified by the FBI based on fingerprints.

Names of the men weren't immediately released. One was in his 20s and the other in his 30s.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

PHOENIX -- The bodies of two men from the Phoenix area were found Thursday morning in a wildlife refuge south of Alamo, Nev.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department was investigating the scene, which is about 80 miles north of Las Vegas. The area is very isolated.

A person out for a walk found the bodies in Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge along Highway 93.

The two victims have not been identified, but both have shotgun wounds to the head. Sheriff's deputies found a 12-gauge shotgun near the bodies.

The victims' car was found near the bodies. The vehicle is a rental from Sky Harbor International Airport and was due back Thursday.

Sheriff Kerry Lee says there is evidence that the two men spent Wednesday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The sheriff says he has no idea why they were that far north of Las Vegas.

"For some unknown reason, they picked this spot and stopped," Lee said. "We don't know right now whether it was a murder-suicide, whether it was two murders -- of course we are not ready to release that right now. Both of the bodies will be transported to the Clark County Corner's Office where an autopsy will probably take place tomorrow."

Lee is going to work with MGM and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to piece together what may have happened. Authorities reportedly have collected a lot of evidence on the scene.
