UPDATE:Funeral services set for AZ Sen. Jake Flake

UPDATE - Sen. Jake Flake's will have a memorial service in Phoenix as well as a funeral in Snowflake, ensuring people from the Valley who want to pay their respects will have an opportunity.

Services scheduled for Flake

The memorial is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the LDS Phoenix East Stake Center, 1835 E. Missouri.

The funeral is at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Snowflake Main Street Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Main Street Chapel. Additional visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be sent to the Snowflake Academy Foundation 30 W. 2nd South Snowflake, Arizona 85937.

ORIGINAL - PHOENIX - Arizona State Senator Jake Flake died Sunday at the age of 72. Paramedics were not able to revive Flake after he fell at his Snowflake home.

Jake's nephew, Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona's Sixth District, released a statement as the whole family mourns the passing of Arizona State Senator Jake Flake.

"Words cannot express the sadness we all feel at the passing of Jake Flake," said Congressman Flake. "His family has lost a loving father, his church a devoted servant, his community a loyal advocate, and Arizona a great statesman. On a personal level, I have lost a caring uncle and mentor."

Governor Napolitano released this statement, "Jake Flake was a leader of great strength and wisdom, who worked with passion on behalf of the people of Arizona. Our hearts and prayers are with his family as they mourn his loss."  

Jake Flake represented Arizona's Fifth Legislative District in the Arizona State Senate. He previously served as Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, 12 of his 13 children, and over 50 grandchildren.
