PHOENIX -- Testing for the Valley Metro Light Rail is under way throughout the Valley.
Another 20-mile stretch will start trail runs this week.
Until now, tests have been limited to south of McDowell Road in downtown Phoenix, along Washington Street and through Tempe and Mesa.
With two months to go until the Light Rail is slated to open to passengers, trains will start rolling along Central Avenue.
Test runs will also take place at night in the coming weeks.
A spokeswoman said testing will become so regular that it will seem like the Light Rail is already in service.
Each train is required to travel 1,000 miles before it can be place into regular service on Dec. 27.
