Drunk man kicked out of strip club, run over by car
10:15 PM Mountain Standard Time on Wednesday, August 13, 2008
PHOENIX -- A man who was escorted out of a strip club after apparently drinking too much was hit by a car early Wednesday morning.
It happened shortly after 2 a.m., outside the Pantera Show Club in the area of 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road.
The bar was closing and the man, who was intoxicated, reportedly refused to leave. Bouncers escorted the man outside and all the way off the property to Indian School Road. He apparently stumbled into the street, and that's when a car slammed into him.
That man was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he is in critical condition.
At this point, police do not believe the club employees did anything wrong.
"He [the patron] had been asked to leave several times, and offered rides, which he refused," said Sgt. Scott Sowerwine of the Phoenix Police Department.
Westbound Indian School Road was opened at about 7 a.m., but the eastbound lanes remained closed.
