PHOENIX - The following is a press release from the Arizona Department of Public Safety:

The new trigger speed eliminates an inconsistency created by speed related statutes. The change also reflects public input since the expanded program was put into operation on Sept. 26, 2008. For example, the speed limit for the downtown I-10 corridor in Phoenix was recently raised to 65 mph from 55 mph so that speed limits are more consistent from one photo enforcement zone to another.
The triggering speed for photo enforcement activations will be 11 miles over the posted speed limit in all locations. Drivers can expect to receive notices of violation in the mail if the cameras capture their vehicles violating the posted highway speed limit by the new higher threshold.
Please note: DPS Officers continue to have the discretion to issue speeding citations at speeds below the 11 mph trigger speed.
