Early morning home invasion sends one victim to hospital

MESA - The following is a press release from the Mesa Police Department:

Investigators responded to an early morning shooting at a Mesa apartment home located at 510 S. Extension.

Police searching for multiple suspects

Police received the 911 call shortly after 4:00 a.m.

Uniformed patrol officers responded to the scene and located a 22-year-old female in the residence that had an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. Investigators believe that at the time of the incident, the apartment was occupied by three males and the female shooting victim.

At this point in the investigation it appears that 1-3 black males may have forced entry into the apartment.

At least one suspect discharged a firearm in the residence, striking the victim in a non-vital area.

Motive is unclear and it has not been determined if any property was taken from the residence.
