During the Forth of July holiday weekend a tragic ATV collision resulted in the fatality of a thirteen year old child and non-life threatening injuries to two fourteen year old children who were also riding on the vehicle.

On Saturday July 5th, 2008 at about 3:52 pm Emergency Communication Specialists of the Northern Arizona Regional 911 Center received a 911 call reporting an ATV collision involving multiple victims on Forest Service Road 141, approximately, 7 miles east of the Woods Subdivision.  Deputies of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Williams Patrol Division along with medical crews from the Williams Fire Department and Life Line Medical Transport responded to the scene of the collision.

Responding deputies learned that three children including a 14 year old female of Tempe AZ, a 14 year old female of Chandler AZ, and a 13 year old McKenzie Dixon of Tempe AZ were riding an ATV west on FSR 141 when, for an unknown reason, the driver lost control causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a tree.

Investigation revealed that two of the three vehicle occupants were wearing helmets including McKenzie Dixon and one of the fourteen year old females.  The two fourteen year old victims were transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center by Life Line Medical Transport.  On scene medical personnel pronounced McKenzie Dixon deceased due to obvious blunt trauma injuries.  Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies are continuing this investigation.
