FLAGSTAFF -- A late spring storm moved into Flagstaff overnight, bringing with it -- of all things -- snow!

Snowy day in Flagstaff

The Flagstaff School District says there was a two-hour delay for its schools today because oft he snow.

According to the National Weather Service, there's 1/2 inch of the white stuff on the ground in many areas, and up to 2 inches in some places. There are even some reports of 4 to 6 inches in a few areas.

The snow started falling at about 4 a.m.

"I was shocked," said 3TV's Northern Arizona Bureau photographer Nolan Tournquist.

And even more snow is expected, along with rain later this afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a snow advisory through noon.

It's been more than 10 years since we've seen more than 10 inches of snow in May in Flagstaff. The last time it happened was 1995.

The same storm brought virga to Valley, which is rain that evaporates before it reaches the ground.

It's expected to be an unseasonably cool day with a high of just 81 degrees. Bump that up by 10 degrees tomorrow, with a continued warming trend into next week.
