EL MIRAGE -- A 2-year-old has been removed from her parents' custody after she allegedly ate some marijuana. What's more, the child reportedly had been living in filthy conditions.
According to the assistant police chief, the girl's parents -- Sylvia Stocking and Matthew Skaggs -- have been booked on suspicion of child abuse and endangerment.
It all started when the little girl was taken to the hospital Thursday. According to the staff there, she was uncommunicative and lethargic. Tests showed she had ingested an unknown amount of marijuana.
The girl's parents deny that.
The hospital contacted the police. Officers searched the home and discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia throughout the house, including in the toddler's bedroom.
Officers who went to the home said it was littered with human and animal feces, dirty diapers and spoiled food. The police report described living conditions as "disgusting and unhealthy."
The girl is now in the care of Child Protective Services.
