MESA -- Firefighters from cities in eastern metro Phoenix are back home after battling devastating Southern California wildfires.

The group of 21 firefighters from Apache Junction, Chandler, Guadalupe, Mesa and Tempe fought a 9,000-acre wildfire near the town of Fallbrook, Calif., about 50 miles north of San Diego.

The fire was fully contained Sunday morning, and the firefighters came home Sunday night.

In total, Arizona has sent more than 300 firefighters to battle the California blazes, which have destroyed more than 2,000 homes and burned more than 500,000 acres.
