A pair of volunteers from the Arizona chapter of the Red Cross will be heading to Southern California later today to help victims of the devastating wildfires there.
According to Megan Morris of the Arizona Red Cross, the volunteers are taking a Red Cross Emergency Communications Response Vehicle (ECRV).
The vehicle not only contains an amateur radio stations, it's also equipped with phone lines, 25 laptops and remote Internet capabilities.
The ECRV's 50-foot mast allows the vehicle to contact a satellite so it can provide communications capabilities no matter where it's located.
The communications team from Phoenix will help relay vital information, as well as help improve internal communications among various agencies, Morris said in a news release.
