TB patient flees country
12:03 PM Mountain Standard Time on Tuesday, October 9, 2007
The man who was locked up for nearly two years, reportedly with a dangerous strain of tuberculosis, has fled the country.
Robert Daniels met up with his wife and son in Moscow. He spoke by phone to 3TV.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office believes Daniels fled this weekend, hoping to escape prosecution.
Last year, a judge ruled that Daniels had recklessly exposed others to TB by going out in public without a mask.
He was released last month after he had a lung removed and was declared no longer contagious.
He was still being monitored by Maricopa County public health officials.
Daniels has dual citizenship in the United States and Russia.
He reportedly e-mailed his attorney once he arrived in Moscow Sunday night. In the note, he apologized for fleeing but said he "felt threatened by Sheriff Joe Arpaio."
